BEE-Group is a non-partisan, nonprofit making independent non-government organization (NGO). It was established by a group of non-political, academic, and professional people in 2000 AD with a great motivation to work in the local regions, especially in the Lumbini and Karnali Province of the country for democracy, peace, human rights, environmental conservation, climate change adaptation, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and community development in the area of child protection, sustainable livelihoods, nutrition, WASH, alternative energy, governance, and income generation. Since then, it is working on the rights-based approach to issues such as social justice, peace, human rights, democratic development, environment conservation, and community development. It works for the attainment of peace, development, and justice through peoples’ meaningful participation and bottom-up approach.
In the years of armed conflict in Nepal, BEE-Group demonstrated proven quality and strength toward building a greater public defense of human rights, democracy, and community development. In the meantime, the organization had stood in front-line along with other like-minded organizations in opposing the non-democratic rule and rampant problem of impunity. It had worked under exceptionally difficult circumstances even in the remotest hilly regions of Nepal, to protect and promote human rights and help attain peace, democracy, and sustainable development for the community.
BEE-Group has comprised energetic intellectuals and a like-minded group of human rights defenders, gender experts, environment, agriculture, public health professional, peace educators, sociologists, social leaders, and trainers. The key activities include that planning and implementation, documentation, dissemination of information, education, communication, training, research, fact-finding, publication, and policy advocacy for the establishment of social justice and sustainable development.
BEE-Group has implemented projects in nine districts (Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Salyan, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Mugu, and Humla) of Nepal with field offices dedicated to the work of human rights, democracy, peace, and social justice, environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods, community development, disaster risk reduction, and management and climate change adaptation. Currently, BEE-Group is working on human rights, child and women rights, environmental conservation, occupational and environmental health, education, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, alternative energy, urban risk management and disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation. It has good networking with the local, provincial, federal government, and international organizations. The organization is maintaining a formal working relationship with various national and international organizations, including relevant bodies of the United Nations and other organizations of repute such as Action Aid International Nepal, AWO International, Action Works Nepal, CARE Nepal, Caritas Nepal, CCO/CIDA, Department of Education of Nepal, DFID/Community Support Program, Heifer International, Helen Keller International, International Rescue Committee, Irrigation Department of Nepal, INFRIN International, Italian Foundation, Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, JHUCCP, LGCDP, MdM France, NCCSP, NEWAH, NPLAP, Oxfam, Renewable World, Rights, Democracy and Inclusion Fund (RDIF), Plan International, Save the Children, SAP Nepal, WinRock International, World Education, and PILnet: Global Network of Public Interest Law, DPNet Nepal, etc.
